Favourite thing to do in science: Science!!!…..I really really love Science. I like solving problems in the lab, it’s such a rewarding feeling. I get a great buzz from carrying out my experiments especially when I get good results!!
My Work: I eavesdrop on deadly bugs that live in the lungs of people with a disease called cystic fibrosis….the bugs “chat” to one another in the lungs and it’s my job to shut them up!!
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder (an inherited disease; meaning it’s passed from a parent to a child) that particularly affects the lungs and makes kids who have it more vulnerable to repeated lung infections.
The bugs that infect people with CF produce signal molecules to comminicate with other bugs in the lung these signals makes the patient more unwell.
I hope my experiments in the lab can stop these bugs from advancing in the CF lung.
What I'd do with the money: If I won I’m a Scientist Get Me Out Of Here I would set up science outreach programs in schools in my community. If I had the chance I would also love to write a scince book for children. I believe it’s very important that kids are introduced to science from an early age.
